Paintstiks from Jeff Lumsden

One of the secrets of World Champion fish taxidermist Jeff Lumsden's awesome finishing procedures is now available for everyone. After years of testing dozens of different pigments, liquids, and oil bars, Jeff has discovered the most outstanding medium for tipping scales ever offered. Shiva Iridescent Paintstik colors have all the qualities necessary for an ideal scale tipping medium. First and foremost, the colors are fantastic -- bright, clean golds and silvers, plus subtle to brilliant hues that will literally make your fish come alive! It has a creamy consistency for smooth application and can be used straight (as Jeff prefers) or thinned with Brush Magic. After loading your brush, the consistency of the application remains constant until the brush requires refilling, which allows you super control for tipping scales quickly. Drying agents allow the paint to dry overnight, so whether over painting or under painting, you can handle the fish the next day.
Paintstik Oil Colors are self-sealing. Each stick forms its own protective skin, so the color won't rub off or dry out. Yet they always stay moist and fresh, providing an indefinite shelf life, because they reseal in 24 hours. The protective skin is easily removed with a knife or by rubbing, to expose the creamy smooth oil paint inside.
Jeff uses these oil bars before any sealers or gloss coats have been applied to the skin for best control and ease of application. He likes to use a customized #4 - #8 round brush depending on the size scales he's tipping. Jeff modifies brushes by placing a drop or two of catalyzed lay-up resin to the lower half of the bristles to stiffen them while leaving the tip soft and flexible for applying these rich colors just as they are. Sticks measure 5/8" x 4 1/2".
