Redi-Mount Change Out Heads by Rick Carter (Page 2)

THE MAIN FRAME HEAD

This is the heart of the Redi-Mount system. This head can serve as a reference cast or as a taxidermy production mannikin. Some of the innovative features include:

A: Mouth with lower cast lip and 3/16" deep tucking slot.

B: Pre-installed symmetrical and level cast septum.

C: Visible facial cleft (Os incisivum intermaxillary bone) to indicate nasal depth and palate location.

D: Properly shaped lacrimale bone to achieve proper S-curve in tear ducts.

E: Lower pre-sculpted eyelids.

F: Ear Canal (Meatus acusticus externus) helps locate exact ear placement.

G: Dovetail slot to accept positive fit ears in either forward or back positions.

H: Occipitale bone located at base of skull to ensure anatomically correct vertebra placement at atlas when performing form alterations.

THE TOP OF HEAD:

The next component is the top of the head. This part is uniquely engineered to lock into place when lowered into position. It automatically creates a perfectly shaped tear duct slot with the proper curving interor anatomy. When assembled, the back of the eye socket is positive set to automatically position your glass or acrylic eyes at the correct angle and cant with fully sculpted upper and lower lids. Practically any choice of 32mm Whitetail eyes can be used with the Redi-Mount head. Simply level the pupil according to your pose and slide the eyes down into the open socket using a small amount of clay before attaching the top of the head. This takes only a few seconds and you're done! With a little pre - planning, scleral banded eyes can also be rotated slightly to the left or right if desired.

Main Features:

  • Upper pre-sculpted eyelids with orbital arch.

  • Lacus Lacrimalis muscle with detailed interior shape.

  • Positive key aligns top of head to main frame.

  • Eye sockets can be used for any brand of eye.

SKULL CAP (Optional)

The optional skull cap includes pedicles and can be used to indicate proper positioning or as a platform for mounting shed antlers. It is not included in the basic change-out head package but may be purchased separately if desired.

Nose:

Lateral nasal cartilage (Pair). Both sides of the highly detailed nasal passages are removable for easy access to painting and detailing. Just drop them in and they are automaticcaly seated in the correct position. This eliminates the time-consuming process of leveling and attaching an artificial nose to your mannikin.

The cartilage will also actually fit to the incisivum bone of a real skull in order to study proper nasal structure.

Ears:

Redi-Mount ears can solve all of the most common ear mounting mistakes with these outstanding innovative features:

  • The taxidermist determines the ear position from ears forward, back, or one of each.

  • Includes conchal cartilage with correct interior ridges.

  • Dovetail slot allows the ears to slide in from the top of the head and lock into correct position relative to the ear canals.

  • Accurate inner ear detail included in earliner.

  • Auricular gland at lower ear opening is included.

  • Scutiform cartilage included in earbutt.

  • Veining on the back of the ear as well as the earbutt.

  • No wire, pins, or screws are necessary to secure earbutt.

  • Ears will not move or fall away from head during mounting process.

  • Mounts dry in much less time because there are no clay earbutts.

  • The Redi-Mount head also accepts Eppley 360 ears and earbutts if desired.

  • If you choose, you can also use Bondo ears and self sculpted earbutts. Note: Ear cartilage should always be removed when using earliners.

When you choose your Redi-Mount change out head, you can select from four different ear position configurations to suit your preferences.
