Using a Lockit-Socket Squirrel Manikin
Master taxidermist John Bellucci has developed a great system for squirrel mounting. The Lockit-Socket Squirrel mounting system is anatomically accurate and easy to use. Coupled with the flexible leg manikins, you can achieve life-like poses previously impossible with rigid manikins.
-
Skin the squirrel and prepare the skin for mounting as usual.
-
Coat the front legs with hide paste and insert them into the skin of the legs.
-
Spread hide paste over the body manikin, except for the leg socket areas.
-
Adjust the skin over the body and around the front legs. Place some four-minute epoxy in the front leg sockets. Fit the legs in the sockets from the outside of the skin, temporarily pinning through the skin, upper leg, and into the body manikin.
-
Insert the tail and attach the real legs in the same manner. Close the incison.
