How to Use Polytranspar™ Fin Backing Cream

Polytranspar™ Fin Backing Cream is an acrylic elastomeric transparent compound.
Transparency develops after curing (usually within 24 hours, under normal conditions).
Outstanding adhesion and flexibility make Polytranspar™ Fin Backing Cream
ideally suited for many uses, including priming mannikins, eye setting, membrane effects and earliner adhesion.

Directions:

Apply to clean surfaces at temperatures over 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Prolonged exposure to excessive moisture may cause temporay cloudiness. Clean up excess and tools with water before curing occurs. Puncture seal inside nozzle before using. Keep from freezing.

For Good Fins - One Coat Application:

  1. Clean the dried fin or tail of any oil or dust with a paper towel and lacquer thinner. Allow to dry.

  2. Apply Polytranspar™ Fin Backing Cream to the base of the fin.

  3. Spatulate to both sides of the fin (Note: work on one fin at a time).

  4. Smooth with a small brush dipped in water, following the rays of the fin. Permit to dry overnight (for transparency to develop).

For Split or Damaged Fins:

  1. Apply one layer of Silk Span to the back side of fin and press firmly into place.

  2. Trim any excess tape and fin to the desired shape.

  3. Apply one heavy coat of Polytranspar™ Fin Backing Cream to both sides of the fin. Use a spatula and a small brush. Follow the rays of the fin. Allow to dry.

  4. Fin is ready to paint when Polytranspar™ Fin Backing Cream becomes transparent. Two or three coats of the cream can be applied to larger fins, or to recreate the fleshy look of a fresh fin.
